Exhibit: "A Black History of Colonial New York"

Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site is pleased to present a new traveling exhibit developed by PMH staff and historians. The exhibit will be on display in the museum's Gothic Chamber for most of August and September. Presenting an overview of Black history in New York from the colonial New Netherland period to the American Revolution, the exhibit covers topics such as slavery, the slave trade, resistance, self-emancipation, and military service, with a focus on the Philipse Manor, Westchester County, and the lower Hudson Valley. Exhibit panels include QR codes to additional information online.

This exhibit debuted at the Westchester County African-American Heritage Festival on June 23, 2024 and will continue to travel to events around the region in 2024 and 2025.

Admission to this exhibit is included with general admission to the museum ($6 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, children 12 & under and Friends of Philipse Manor Hall members free) and the exhibit is open during regular museum hours. Plan your visit.
