In honor of Saint Nicholas Day, food historian Niel DeMarino traces the history of gingerbread from its earliest examples to the present. Looking at examples from many different time periods and all over the world, DeMarino explains how gingerbread came to be associated with the holiday season and why it captures the imagination. In-person program includes gingerbread tasting!
Speaker Bio:
Niel DeMarino is a renowned independent culinary historian who is rather at home in the 18th century. Niel is the proprietor of "The Georgian Kitchen," which specializes in period correct baked goods, culinary items, and kitchen equipage. He lectures about and teaches open hearth cookery & baking and culinary - social history at various historic sites throughout the Northeast.
