Have you ever wondered about the history of early Yonkers? What industries were along the waterfront? How Yonkers developed as a city? Join us for this 90 minute, 1 mile loop starting at Philipse Manor Hall and heading down Van der Donck Park, through the Yonkers Train Station, out to the waterfront, down to the Enslaved Africans Rain Garden, and back up. Along the way we'll talk about the history of Yonkers from pre-contact to the present, point out historic downtown buildings and landmarks, explore some of the Saw Mill and Hudson Rivers' ecology, and the public art you'll see along the way. Philipse Manor Hall is one of the oldest houses in New York State, with the oldest part of the house dating back to the 1680s. Join architectural historian Keith Doherty as you learn about the various architectural techniques used to build the house, inside and out, and explore Philipse Manor Hall's role in helping develop the unique New York style of Georgian architecture. Philipse Manor Hall is also an easy walk from the Yonkers Train Station and several Bee Line Buses stop directly in front of the museum.
